From humble beginnings, igniting as the small side business at a petrol station in Sydney, Redspot Car Rentals has grown to be recognised throughout the world as an innovator and leader in the Australian rental industry.

Redspot took off in 1989 with a fleet of just two courtesy cars; a Holden Ute and a Laser and a team of one, Dan Mekler, managing director of Redspot. Dan being the entrepreneur that he is, started to experiment with Sydney City hotel delivery, soon discovering a large gap in the availability of car rentals on the weekend.

With great persistence, and the forging of forever lasting business relationships, Dan grew Redspot from being a small side business to becoming a national network of operations.

In 1999, Redspot tendered for an on-airport licence at Sydney Airport, and won. They then faced a much bigger more demanding challenge against the big multinational companies like Hertz and Avis on their own turf.

With the first win, Redspot was able to grow its on-airport presence around the country, and by 2004 opened another 4 on airport locations at Gold Coast, Cairns, Launceston and Perth. Another 3 years later, Redspot opened Brisbane, Hobart, Mackay and Adelaide airports.

In 2005 Redspot realised the need for a "fair go" car rental offer, and introduced the Drive Away package. Drive Away is a all inclusive rate with $0 damage excess, the first of its kind in the car rental world, and is still highly accepted by the public.

With its evolving business strategy, Redspot is becoming more relevant to the corporate market whilst retaining and keeping its promise to serving its traditional leisure base.

ID required
When collecting a car we need to see three forms of ID including a valid driver's licence. Examples of other ID we accept are Medicare Card, passport, credit/charge card, student ID, household electricity statement. Your driver's licence must be in English. If your driver's licence doesn't include a photo, we need to see alternative photo ID. If you have an International Drivers Licence, we don't need to see this so long as your licence of origin is clearly valid and is recognised as an authentic driver's licence.

Delay
If your flight is delayed we can hold your booking at the airport (so long as the flight number has been given). Once we've had word that your flight has landed and you haven't arrived for your pick-up, we'll release the booking after 1 hour if other customers need the car. At city locations we can hold your booking for 1 hour after the nominated collection time unless you contact us to arrange an alternative pickup time.

Payment Conditions
When collecting a car you must present a valid credit card in your name with sufficient funds to cover the cost of any additional bonds, optional extras, rental extensions or fuel charges. (Minimum $100 and a maximum of $1000 depending on your elected damage and loss liability).

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club and JCB.There is a credit card fee of 1.65% on Visa, MasterCard and a 4.95% credit card fee on Diners, JCB and American Express (fee is excluded on Driveaway, Business Club rates, and certain prepaid vouchers). Cheques - both company and personal - aren't accepted. We accept cash and we simply ask for a cash bond (in addition to the rental cost) which will be based on the length of rental and type of car rented. We'll also ask you to complete a cash qualification form when you're at the counter.

Rental Period
Rates are based on a minimum rental period of one day (24-hours from the time the rental starts). At Redspot we allow a 59-minute grace period, after which an extra day will be charged. This includes wholesale (tour voucher) rentals.

Insurance
Comprehensive Motor Vehicle Insurance including third party and public liability is included in our rates. A loss and damage liability (LDL) may apply. The renter will be fully liable for any damage to the Redspot vehicle and any third party property, if the terms and conditions of the rental agreement are breached.
